• District’s Capital Improvement Project Now in Bidding Phase

A $12.56 million capital improvement project remains on schedule with a majority of the work still planned to take place in the summer of 2024.

“The plans are out to bid for the contractors,” said district Business Administrator Robert Farrier. “They will be back January 11, we’ll review them and award the bids on January 22.

“Once we award the bids, then we’re off to the races. We can order material and be ready for the summer.”

    The project will include:

    • Roof replacements at all three schools and unit ventilation systems at all schools to allow for a fresh air exchange.
    • Milling/repaving of the parking lots and sidewalks at the intermediate and high schools.
    • Construction of an age-appropriate playground at the intermediate school.
    • Installation of a stand-by generator at the intermediate/high school to protect technology, mechanical systems and security during a power outage.
    • Replacement of the high school gymnasium ceiling.
    • Upgrading storm drainage for the high school in the courtyard.
    • Converting outdoor tennis courts into a multi-purpose athletic facility that will include pickleball courts.
    • At the elementary school, air conditioning will be added, and sanitary system components will be replaced. The elementary school hosts extended learning programs during the summer.

Planning for the needs-based project began in 2021, and district voters approved the project in December 2022. The project was just reviewed and approved by the New York State Education Department.

This is a debt-neutral project that will have a zero increase in taxes due to expiring debts from previous projects.

“A lot of this work is a long-time coming, especially our roofs, the athletic fields and the generator, so a lot of great stuff is going to come out of this,” said Farrier.

“We’re excited that it’s on target and we’ll have a majority of the project completed by the end of next summer.”
