    Work Based Learning Program

    9th-12th

    Pre-requisites: 

    Must be in 9th-12th Grade and have 2nd-4th period available

    Course Description: 

    Get real life work experience and acquire skills. This course gives students an opportunity to explore different careers and gain basic skills needed in all work enviorments. Students will also focus on skills needed to be self sufficient post graduation. If students complete the necessary hours and show proficiency in the work based learning standards, they may obtain their CDOS certificate in addition to their High School Regents or as their exiting credential.

    Course Goals and/or Major Student Outcomes: 

    - Students will strengthen their work skills and obtain a CDOS Certificate.

    - Students will complete work-based learning hours in either an on or off-campus placement

    - Students will independently complete tasks that they have learned at their placement

    - Create a resume

    - Create a career plan

    - Complete career interest profile and identify what areas they are most skilled in

    - Learn and practice safety measures in different work environments

    - Get an opportunity to talk to professionals in a wide variety of professions

    - Navigate and access information about professions on Occupational Outlook 

    - Gain interviewing skills 

    - Practice a mock interview

    - Be exposed to the different types of professional dress codes

    - Discuss how to have a healthy relationship with employees and employers

    - How to resolve conflicts in work placement

    - Will keep track of hours that were completed at a work placement

    - Will write a formal request for a letter of recommendation

    - Will complete a journal entry for each day at a work placement

    - Will be able to look at pay stubs and analyze

    - Create a budget

    - Analyze stocks and how to invest

    - File taxes and understand 1099 and W2’s
