    Senior Work Experience

    Pre-requisites: 

    Must have completed 11th grade

    Course Description: 

    Get real life work experience: Already have a part-time job? You can use your part-time job to meet the needs of this course. Don’t have a part-time job but want one? We can help. Gain work experience in areas where you may be interested in pursuing a career. Students may leave school 9th period and have an opportunity to work in different businesses in the area. This course gives students an opportunity to build a resume and obtain letters of recommendation. Students may also obtain their CDOS certificate in addition to their High School Regents or Advanced Regents diploma with the successful completion of this course.

    Course Goals and/or Major Student Outcomes: 

    - Students will strengthen their work skills and obtain a CDOS Certificate.

    - Create a resume

    - Create a career plan

    - Complete career interest profile and identify what areas they are most skilled in

    - Learn and practice safety measures in different work environments

    - Get an opportunity to talk to professionals in a wide variety of professions

    - Navigate and access information about professions on Occupational Outlook 

    - Gain interviewing skills 

    - Practice a mock interview

    - Be exposed to the different types of professional dress codes

    - Discuss how to have a healthy relationship with employees and employers

    - How to resolve conflicts in work placement

    - Will keep track of hours that were completed at a work placement

    - Will write a formal request for a letter of recommendation

    - Will complete a journal entry for each day at a work placement

    - Will be able to look at pay stubs and analyze

    - Create a budget

    - Analyze stocks and how to invest

    - File taxes and understand 1099 and W2’s
