     Course Description: 

    What does it take to be an adult in today's world? Learn the necessities of life such as how to change a tire, create a resume, fill out applications for insurance, how to balance a checkbook, make a simple meal, invest in the stock market, file taxes and many other basic skills every young adult needs to know.

    Course Goals and/or Major Student Outcomes: 

    Students will be able to perform tasks required to be a young adult and live on their own.

    - Create a resume

    - Create a career plan

    - Complete career interest profile and identify what areas they are most skilled in

    - Learn and practice safety measures in different work environments

    - Get an opportunity to talk to professionals in a wide variety of professions

    - Navigate and access information about professions on Occupational Outlook. 

    - Gain interviewing skills 

    - Practice a mock interview

    - Be exposed to the different types of professional dress codes

    - Discuss how to have a healthy relationship with employees and employers

    - How to resolve conflicts in work placement

    - What taxes are used for and how to fill out tax forms 

    - How to read a pay stub

    - How to cook a simple meal

    - How to create a budget

    - Make good food choices and explore sustainable farming

    - Explore mental and physical health

    - How to have good friendships and positive peer interactions

    - Students will identify personal strengths and weaknesses as related to work and develop a plan to strengthen them. 

    - Students will participate in team-building activities to reinforce working collaboratively with coworkers.
