4th Grade Class Expectations

  • Mrs. Duncan and I co-teach math, ELA, science, and social studies with our fourth grade class.

    • Our math class follows the "Big Ideas" fourth grade curriculum. The students have several days to complete independent practice assignments in class. If they need additional time, they will be assigned for homework. Our curriculum is separated into chapters, with a test at the end of each chapter. Feel free to access the "Big Ideas" student book through Classlink.
    • Our ELA class uses the "Wit and Wisdom" fourth grade curriculum. This curriculum requires students to read and analyze different types of texts (as well as paintings and videos), along with class discussions, written responses, and vocabulary study. Students work hard to record their thoughts in our class notebook, which is graded every five lessons for neatness and completion. We also grade the written responses to our texts. Our ELA work is completed during the school day.
    • Our science and social studies classes consist mostly of group activities, investigations, and projects, which are also completed during the school day.
    • All students in fourth grade receive phonics instruction during our literacy block. These classes are ungraded and tailored to your child's individual needs. Feel free to contact us for updates on the specific skills that your child is working on in their literacy group.
    • Please take a look at our grading policy below for the 2024/2025 school year. Parents are able to access grades through the Parent Portal; please reach out any time with questions or concerns about your child's grades or progress in our class.
