Pacay Tec earns Wildcat Recognition
Kristel Pacay Tec was recognized at the Board of Education meeting April 7 for being the latest Wildcat Recognition honoree. Wildcat Recognition is a district-wide initiative introduced in 2025 to honor students for going above and beyond in the school community.
“I really wasn’t expecting it,” said Pacay Tec, an eighth grader at Eugene Brooks Intermediate School. “It did surprise me because when my mom gave me the news, I was like what did I do to deserve this because I wasn’t really sure. I just try working hard every day in school for the stuff I want.
“I’m really grateful. I really appreciate it.”
English teacher Jenna Garofalo nominated Pacay Tec for the honor.
“You are always so positive and helpful,” said Garofalo on the certificate. “I appreciate your dedication to your studies and your bright outlook towards your academics. When you need help, you are not afraid to ask questions. Thank you for your participation in class and leadership skills. Keep up the good work! I know you will be successful.”
EBIS Principal Jennifer Hengen praised her student’s work.
“Kristel, it has been a pleasure watching you grow into a mature young lady who is a positive role model for everyone,” said Hengen. “Your leadership skills were noticeable on the basketball court in the winter. Continue to be you!!!”
Pacay Tec is a student-athlete competing in three modified sports and excelling in the classroom as a member of the National Junior Honor Society. She said being a leader is being respectful, including everyone, and working and communicating well with each other.
“Ever since I was little, I liked being responsible and doing what I’m asked for,” she said.
“It’s really an honor to be in the National Junior Honor Society because you get to learn a lot of stuff from the things you do there. Sometimes, you are doing community service. Sometimes I get engaged in some stuff I do there and it kind of makes me want to do more stuff.”
Pacay Tec competes on the modified girls soccer, girls basketball and track and field teams at EBIS and hopes to compete in all three sports when she enters high school.
“I like them all because it keeps me busy and I like improving on what I do,” she said.
