• Class Expectations


    Safety First:
    -Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as but not limited to safety glasses, gloves, and closed-toe shoes.
    -Keep long hair tied back and avoid loose clothing or jewelry that could get caught in machinery.
    -Follow all safety protocols for each tool and machine. Never use equipment without proper training and permission.
    -Report any accidents or unsafe conditions to Mr. Howard immediately.


    Respect the Tools and Equipment:
    -Handle all tools and machines with care and use them only for their intended purpose.
    -Clean and return tools to their designated places after use.
    -Report any damaged or malfunctioning tools to Mr. Howard.


    Maintain a Clean and Organized Workspace:
    -Keep your work area clean and free from clutter at all times.
    -Dispose of waste materials properly and recycle when possible.
    -At the end of each class, participate in a shop cleanup to ensure the space is ready for the next group.


    Follow Instructions and Stay on Task:
    -Listen carefully to Mr. Howard’s demonstrations and ask questions if you do not understand.
    -Follow project guidelines and complete tasks in a timely manner.
    -Stay focused on your work and avoid distracting others.


    Respect Others:
    -Be mindful of others’ personal space and safety in the shop.
    -Communicate respectfully with peers and Mr. Howard.
    -Collaborate effectively on group projects, ensuring all members participate.


    Be Responsible and Accountable:
    -Take ownership of your projects and the quality of your work.
    -Attend class regularly and be punctual.
    -Make up any missed work in a timely manner.


    No Horseplay or Distractions:
    -The shop is a place for learning and creating; horseplay, running, or any behavior that could cause injury is strictly prohibited.
    -Keep electronic devices put away unless they are being used for an approved educational purpose.


    Practice Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking:
    -Think through your projects carefully, plan ahead, and use your creativity.
    -Seek help when needed, but also try to troubleshoot problems independently before asking Mr. Howard for assistance.

     

    Daily Procedures

    1. Entering the Classroom:

      • Enter the classroom quietly and head directly to your assigned workstation.

      • Place bags and other personal items in the designated area.

      • Put on all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses.

     

    1. Attendance and Daily Briefing:

      • Mr. Howard will take attendance promptly at the start of class.

      • Listen attentively as Mr. Howard provides a brief overview of the day's objectives, safety reminders, and any special instructions.

      • Students may ask questions to clarify tasks or expectations.

     

    1. Review and Tool Check:

      • Quickly review your project status and make sure you have all necessary tools and materials.

      • Inspect tools and equipment for any damage or malfunction. Report any issues to Mr. Howard immediately.

     

    1. Work Time:

      • Begin working on your assigned project or task for the day.

      • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines provided by Mr. Howard.

      • Stay focused on your work, minimizing distractions and unnecessary conversations.

      • Ask Mr. Howard for help if needed, but first try to problem-solve on your own.

      • If finished early, students should clean their work area and assist others or start on their next project.

    2. Cleanup and Equipment Check (5-6 minutes):

      • Stop all work when Mr. Howard signals for cleanup time.

      • Turn off and safely store all tools and equipment.

      • Clean up your work area and dispose of or recycle waste materials properly.

      • Return all tools to their designated places.

     

    1. Class Wrap-Up and Exit:

      • Gather any personal belongings and check that you have all your items.

      • Mr. Howard will give a quick review or announcement if needed.

      • Exit the classroom in an orderly manner once Mr. Howard dismisses the class.
