Doug Matthews – Social Studies Teacher
Doug Matthews always had a passion for history and turned it into a career. Matthews is teaching ninth and 10th grade global studies and geography, and a criminal justice elective at Webutuck High School.
“This is a very diverse group of learning,” he said. “It’s challenging but on the other hand it’s testing my ability as a new teacher to be creative to get through material in engaging ways.”
The Arlington High School graduate earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY New Paltz and is currently studying for his master’s degree at Western Connecticut State University.
“I was that kid in elementary school and early middle school years where Saturday mornings I would still watch cartoons like every other kid, but I would do it with a bowl of cereal and an encyclopedia,” he said. “I would choose a country or empire and be fascinated by that. Read and go to the library to pick out books, and I just developed an interest over time.”
Matthews taught at Our Lady of Lourdes High School for one year before coming to Webutuck High School for the 2022-2023 school year.
The husband and father of two children enjoys playing golf and video games, reading, movies and spending time with his family.
