Schools recognize students with perfect attendance

A breakfast was held Feb. 4 in the Eugene Brooks Intermediate School cafeteria to recognize intermediate and high school students with perfect attendance during the first half of the school year.

Perfect AttendanceThis is the second year a breakfast was organized for students with perfect attendance in the first half of the school year.

“It’s really important to come to school every day because you need to learn,” said fourth grader Piper Sniffen.

Students were excused from a class to attend the breakfast and receive a certificate from their principal. Twenty-three EBIS students and 12 high school students had perfect attendance through the first two marking periods of the year.

“I think we had a few more students here than last year,” said Cassi Diamond, teacher and organizer of the event with EBIS’ climate and culture club. “It’s nice to see the things we’re doing in the district to improve attendance are working.”

EBIS Principal Jennifer Hengen added, “It’s great to recognize students who can make it here every single day. It’s exciting to see different faces. It’s nice to see the students in the two schools come together.

“Attendance matters. If you’re not in your seat learning, you’re missing out on important things.”

The food services team prepared a breakfast that featured eggs, bacon, pancakes, fruit salad and oatmeal.

“It’s important for me because it can go on your resume in the future and you can learn more,” said eighth grader Nolan Howard on the importance of attending school each day.

Fourth grader Caleb Dennis added, “I enjoy learning and being able to play with my friends at recess.”

Henry Dore said it’s important to be in school each day “because it determines how you’re going to do the rest of your life.”

Dore added there are mornings he’s not sure if he’ll make it to school.

“I just remember all the fun things that can happen here,” he said.
