Board Member Demonstrates Making Pizza in Pre-K Class
School board member Tony Robustelli continued a tradition by visiting the elementary school to show children how pizza is made in the pre-K class of his granddaughter Adalynn Youmans on May 5.
“I always did it throughout my whole career with my kids and now my grandkids,” said Robustelli, a longtime pizzeria owner who started making pizzas professionally at the age of 19.
Robustelli demonstrated how a pizza maker flattens a ball of dough into a pizza. He had the students assist him before he began stretching, tossing and catching the pizza dough. He concluded his demonstration by pretending to miss the dough and having it land on his head, drawing laughter from the students.
“We just want to have a good time,” said Robustelli.
Robustelli left three cooked pizzas – cheese; pepperoni; and chicken, bacon and ranch – for the students to enjoy after his demonstration.
Robustelli’s show and tell and eating the pizza gave the students time to share some time and laughs together.
“Food always brings people together,” said Robustelli.
Paige Wagner, the teacher of the pre-K class, said it was the first time Robustelli came to one of her classes.
“It was really Tony’s idea,” she said. “He was wanting to do a show and tell with the pizza, and wanted Adalynn to have a chance to share the pizza with her friends at school. He reached out to me and we made it happen so they could talk about pizza and have a nice meal together.
“He’s got such a charisma about him. It’s nice to have board members come into the classroom, and see the rooms, the kids and see what we do here at school. It’s really special that he’s part of the community and that he did this.”
Youmans enjoyed the visit from her grandfather and said he did a “good” job in demonstrating how pizza dough becomes pizza.
