Wessel becomes first EBIS student to receive Wildcat Recognition
William Wessel is Eugene Brooks Intermediate School’s first recipient of Wildcat Recognition. Wildcat Recognition is a new districtwide initiative to honor students for going above and beyond in the school community.
“It makes me feel like a kind person,” said Wessel of winning the honor. “It’s nice to stand up for other people when they need it.
“It makes me feel good when other people are happy.”
His fifth grade teacher Deanna Ambrosino nominated Wessel.
“William embodies kindness and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand to classmates, whether it’s offering support with academic challenges or simply being a compassionate friend,” she said on the Wildcat Recognition certificate.
“His willingness to assist teachers with tasks, no matter how small, reflects his remarkable work ethic and thoughtful nature. We are proud to celebrate his kind-hearted spirit and positive impact on those around him.”
EBIS Principal Jennifer Hengen also praised Wessel on the certificate.
“William is always willing to lend a hand to help out around EBIS,” she said. “It is not uncommon for him to be sweeping up and tidying up the cafeteria during lunch time.
“William always says good morning to me with a warm smile. I can always count on him for using his manners and being a positive role model in the hallways.”
Wessel is thankful for Ambrosino’s help in class.
“She’s helped me with my work when I needed it,” he said. “I’m grateful for that.”
Wessel said math is his favorite subject, and he’s enjoying fifth grade because he knows more about the school than he did in fourth grade, his first year in EBIS.
Wessel enjoys hanging out with his older sister Grace, playing video games and appreciates the friends he’s made along the way.
“If I’m kind, they’ll spread the kindness around for other people and everyone will be happy,” said Wessel.
