Drama society sets new dates for “Clue”
The Webutuck Drama Society is returning to the auditorium stage Jan. 6 for the first time since the holiday break to continue preparing its production of “Clue.” Students will be performing for a live audience on March 28, 29 and 30 at 7 p.m.
“Everything is coming along really well,” said fourth grader Lois Musgrove, who plays Miss Peacock. “Everyone is really nice and I love the story of the play. It’s a really funny, suspenseful play.”
“Clue” was originally a board game dating back to the 1940s in the United Kingdom. It later became a play on stage and a 1985 comedy mystery film in movie theaters starring Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull and Lesley Ann Warren.
In the movie, six guests are invited to a mansion for dinner. Six people are murdered, including the dinner host, and the guests and staff become suspects and work together to identify the murderer.
“I think it’s going to be a great play; you should be expecting a lot of laughs,” said fourth grader Mariah Bradley, who plays Miss Scarlet. “I really like my character. She’s very fancy and I just love her personality. She’s just the right person for me.”
Kaylee Kelsey is a second year music and chorus teacher in the intermediate and high schools. She’s attempting to restart a drama club in the district with “Clue” being the club’s first production. The play was intended to be a high school and intermediate school production, but the high school students had to drop out of the play. Many of the key roles are now being performed by fourth and fifth graders with limited or no theater experience.
The play was just postponed from its January dates to its current dates in March.
“They’re doing great,” Kelsey said of her students. “I know they’re tired, exhausted and ready to have the best outcome possible. I want to make sure they have the proper equipment, set and everything they need to be proud of their hard work.
