School year opens for 2025-2026
Webutuck Elementary School welcomed its first pre-K3 students as the Webutuck Central School District opened its three schools to students for the start of the 2025-2026 school year on Sept. 4.
“It’s so thrilling,” said Elizabeth Fedele, teacher of the district’s new pre-K3 program. “At the Watermelon Welcome (Sept. 3), we met them and gave them huge hugs. The kids came into the classroom and were playing so nicely already. All the families seem so happy. I am thrilled to be doing this.
“It’s a great opportunity to welcome new families early on to jumpstart their academic career.”
Fedele’s two children, third grader Isabel and first grader Ethan, started their first day in their new school.
“I’m thrilled they are here,” said Fedele. “I feel all the love for my own children, which is fantastic. They are excited to start their first day.
“Webutuck is a great school that embraces children.”
Isabel said she looks forward to learning and meeting new friends. Ethan, who enjoys reading, shared, “I’m excited to see what school is like.”
Amanda Coppola is beginning her second year as elementary principal
and praised her staff for getting the day started well.
“I’m very excited for my second full year as principal,” said Coppola. “The staff was wonderful this morning. I received many compliments on how they responded and how they helped students get off the bus, but I expected nothing less of them because they truly care about the kids. We got everyone in the building quickly and safely, and everyone got to where they needed to be. Everyone seems excited to be here.”
Michael Johnson is looking forward to what’s ahead in his senior year. The member of the club wrestling team and school band is looking for a college to study aviation.
“I feel good to be back. I’m looking forward to being with the wrestling club again and deciding what path I’m going to be taking in college,” he said.
Deanna Ambrosino is thrilled to be back teaching English language arts in Eugene Brooks Intermediate School, saying the students seemed very engaged and happy to be back.
“We’re getting to know each other, rules and routines for the first couple of days before we hit the ground running next week,” she said.
“My favorite part is making the connections with the students on a different level, besides the academic level, showing an interest in their interests, getting to know their life outside of school, what they love to do with their families and maintain a connection with them so you can reach them in the classroom.”
