Dear Families and Friends,

As we begin another school year, I reflect on the past and create goals to meet the needs of all involved on a daily basis. This includes children, parents, staff, and the community. This year I embark in a semi- new role at Webutuck. I will continue to lead the Webutuck Elementary School, as well as oversee K-6 special education for the district. As all new encounters can be challenging, and knowing that no new endeavor can be successful on its own, I welcome any suggestions, ideas, and feedback as the year progresses.

Primary education and special education have a special place in my heart. My own personal goal is to create a continuum in all academic and social areas, K-12. We are a small district and we certainly can be a district of excellence. As I work with all my colleagues this year, I hope to instill a set of instructional practices to address the building blocks of learning at all levels. We will continue to develop avenues to strengthen our students’ parent and community relationships. I look forward to this new role and fostering a climate of respect and excellence.

Parent Tip
Children with good social and emotional skills get along better with others. They demonstrate self control and confidence. In addition they exhibit excitement and curiosity about learning.

To assist your child in enhancing these skills encourage him/her to:

  • Create opportunities for your child to play with others in order to promote cooperation
  • Empathize with your child’s feeling in order to encourage him/her to do the same with others. For example, when reading stories, ask your child about the character’s feelings.
  • Facilitate your child’s curiosity. When asked "why,” research things together instead of just answering.
  • Encourage your child not to give up and to try to create solutions to challenging tasks.
