March 27, 2006
In attendance: Patricia Forbes, Tammy Nethercott, Rebecca Hart, Regina McCoy, Rosanna Hamm, Pat Ambrose, Sue Campbell, Jenny Jaffe, Pat Carmody, Nick Johns, Denise Conway, Lynn Buckley, Lois Lang, Glen White, Tonise Baker, Joan Smith, Mike O’Neil.
Items Addressed:
1. Problem Solving Model
A. Lynn Buckley and Regina McCoy shared the K-2 and 3-5 Problem Solving Models. Consistency of steps and appearance were discussed and it was agreed that K-5 will all have the same steps, but these steps will become more detailed and developed with each grade.
B. BOCES BETA was given as a possible source for duplicating these models
and making classroom posters for each classroom. Staples was another possibility. Lynn and Regina will arrange this. These posters will be available no later than September.
2. Wilson Reading
A. The success of this program in Tammy Nethercott’s classroom last year was discussed. She and Rebecca Hart discussed their desire to incorporate portions of this program into the Harcourt Program for next year.
B. Rebecca distributed an independent research company’s finding as support. It was discussed that the Wilson would help fill in comprehension gaps in the 1st and 2nd grade classrooms that require a more language based program. It was also discussed whether or not children would be screened in Kindergarten to determine which students would need this program. Further discussion was postponed until the next BET.
3. Universal Heading
A. Grade levels were asked to develop ideas to share at the next BET.
4. Quality of Work
The quality of work that leaves Webutuck schools was discussed. It was decided that any work that is displayed or that leaves our classroom to be shared in the community should be of the highest caliber appropriate to grade level.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 24th at 3:30
at WES.

A. Role of Special Area Teachers
1. Mary Molloy presented how the Art Curriculum is consistent with a problem-solving model approach and reviewed the various projects related to this type of teaching.
2. Discussion on how to continue the dialogue between Special Area Teachers and Regular Education Teachers.
a. Possible Idea: Monthly Memos: What’s up in your classroom?
B. District Problem Solving Model
1. Discussed the need for uniform vocabulary related to Universal Problem Solving
2. Discussion of Model for District Problem Solving format
3. Decided to go with the idea of Left to Right Steps, going in an upward motion with the framework to include the problem solving terms:
Understand, Plan, Solve and Check
Lynn will work on a mock up for K-2nd grade
Regina will work on a mock up for 3-5th grade
C. Summer School
1. Discussion on Summer School Model
a. get letters of information out in April with the wording, “your child is possible being considered for summer school which will be (dates)
b. discussion on pre and post test for data points
