Eugene Brooks Middle School Academics

The staff at EBMS strives to provide an integrated educational program at all grade levels for all students that aligns with the New York State Learning Standards. This often means that students will be using materials and knowledge learned in one subject as the basis for instruction in another. This kind of instruction provides a stronger foundation on which the student can grow.

EBMS provides many different opportunities for students to grow. We have many different academic and social programs available. Besides having an orientation program in the spring for the current 5th grade, students coming into 6th grade will have the opportunity to participate in a "trust building day" with the staff in early September. Seventh and eighth grade students have the chance to participate in a modified sports program. We provide numerous after school activities including art, drama, and gift making as well as after school movies, dances, and homework club. If a student is simply looking for a quiet place to work, our Library Media Center is open after school four days a week.

EBMS wants our students to grow not only academically, but also to explore their own abilities and talents. To help with this, we provide the opportunity for all students to participate in Middle School Chorus and Band as well as a strong program in Art, Technology, and foreign languages. Socially, we also provide training in Peer Mediation and other character education programs.

Grades at the Eugene Brooks Middle school are based on a combination of class work, homework, projects, tests, and quizzes. The faculty and staff at EBMS have very high academic and behavioral expectations for their students. Parents and staff members should encourage their students to do their best work and to become productive and responsible members of our community.
